Iflix: Let's Play

Thursday, July 21, 2016

When I was but a toddler, my mother told me that I was a good kid. Although it is not advisable today, she told me that she would leave me in a room and I would just happily watch my cartoons on the television while munching on my favorite chocolate chip cookies. Good thing watching too much t.v. did not kill most of my brain cells and while I was a (cough) cute chubby little girl, I did not succumb into obesity. And I still love watching television and I am still a couch potato. But now that I’m all grown up and I’ve added reading to list of my hobbies. Thanks to the gods of modern technology, I am able to read anywhere because of the ebook platform. When I’m bored with the same playlist I listen to almost every day while on commute going to and from school, and now work, I would just open an ebook file and read. That is how I saved myself from the boredom of Metro Manila traffic. Then came the day that I noticed my vision getting a little blurry. I knew reading while on a moving vehicle is bad for the eyes so I got back to just listening to music and lay low on reading. I love music but the routine can get pretty old sometimes.

Good thing I discovered iFlix! Their ads were everywhere—on Facebook and pretty much all the blog sites I’ve visited. They were offering a FREE 30 day full access. I tried it and boy it got me hooked! But for more information about iflix, just click here.

  • Great selection of movies--especially indie! Aside from having a great selection of films, iflix also offers a generous number of indie films. This is a great news for all indie lovers like yours truly. If you have been following my blog, you’ll know that I love a good indie flick and I enjoy going to Cinemalaya film festival. Unfortunately, I can’t watch every Cinemalaya film as much as I want to simply because I don’t have time. So it’s great that iflix partnered with some independent producers to showcase their films via this streaming app. Want to watch those hard-to-find, gone-too-soon-on-cinemas Brillante Mendoza films? Do yourself and Philippine Cinema a favor and go watch them on iflix. Those 2 hours you will spend watching indie will be gold.

  • All movie downloads stored in one section so I don't have to remember file names when searching in file manager. My mind is too stubborn to remember file names. So I try to rename files in a way that I can easily remember to find. But sometimes I just press download without renaming them, because really who has time for that? So if I need to find say, 500 Days of Summer it takes me a long time to find a movie named xXx_500_Days_of_Summer_dvd.mp4. With iflix, all the movies and shows you downloaded are conveniently located in one section.

  • Traffic and boredom buster. If you are a registered user, you can download films for online viewing. So now I’m not on my wits end getting frustrated about traffic. I make sure I always have enough movies for offline viewing because god forbid Manila traffic to drive me crazy.

  • Great customer service. Iflix keep their users updated through social media. They will keep you updated with the latest shows, seasons and episodes there as well. And this is one of the things I love about this app. Problem resolution is sometimes one tweet or Facebook comment away. You know how Filipino companies take customer service for granted. Well, let me tell you that customer service plays a huge part on customer retention. And I, for one, can be a very loyal customer if I get treated right and feel appreciated. It’s easy to get new users/customers but that is the clincher—customer service (and of course quality!) will make people want to stay and iflix and their social media managers are making sure their customer complaints are being looked into and I don’t know for the fun of it, maybe, also interacts with my fellow tv geeks and actually replies to comments and random tweets about their favorite shows. So keep that going, iflix! Give yourselves some pat in the back for that.

  • CheapI could have switched to other apps like HOOQ or the more well-known Netflix but I didn’t and its primarily because iflix is affordable. For only Php 129 a month, the selection of movie and tv shows will give you more than your money’s worth.

But love is not blind, though because here are the things I think iflix can change or fix:

  • CrashingSometimes it crashes and doesn’t work even if I restart my phone so I would have to uninstall and reinstall the app. It happened several times already. I’m not sure though but could those crashes happen when iflix team is uploading new content? I don’t know but please work on it.

  • Increase limit to probably 10 more daysOffline downloads can only be stored on your phone for 7 days. If for some reason you weren’t able to watch them after a week, you’ll have to download the content again. Extend it to 10 days maybe?

Just a disclaimer, I am not at all paid to write about this and I'm not about to compare iflix to other apps. Iflix gave me something unexpected and great for my binge-watching needs though, but I will leave that post for next time because I'd like to keep you guessing *wink wink*. Now its just that when I love something, I just really get out of my limb to promote it. So good, quality selection of films, affordability and a customer service that goes out of the way for you? Check, check and check! Iflix just got themselves a loyal user in me.

  1. When I was a kid, I also enjoy watching TV or movies. I also see a lot of ads about this but I don't subscribe because I don't want to pay any fee, hehehe! I rather watch free movies on the cable or You Tube. Yes, I'm a cheapskate! :)

    1. Haha! I'm afraid I don't have enough patience to wait for Youtube to load. I begged my parents not to get cable (can you believe it?) because I know I wouldn't be able to sleep because I'll never stop watching. I watch anything! :)

  2. I'm not much of a TV-watcher, but my bf is so I learned to enjoy the hobby as well. I used to have a Netflix subscription, but got tired of the old movies they have there, so I stopped. I have been hearing about this iflix but I have never really given it a look. Now that I came across your article, I see that perhaps, iflix is worth the try! Who knows? I might get hooked too!

oi oi oi. I just visited the site. Unfortunately, iflix is not yet available in Norway. haha Anyway, enjoy watching!

    1. Aww that's unfortunate. Iflix is cheaper than Netflix here in Manila. Thanks for dropping by!

  3. Truth is, I never actually tried any app of this nature ever. But you're right, I've been seeing lots of iFlix ads going around social media but never really bothered to check it out! I just might now. Just like you, when I get bored in traffic, atleast there is something else to do than just get irritable about the traffic! Haha

  4. Your eyes will still continue to blur since you're going to watch shows on moving vehicles. However, at least you don't get bored being stuck in Manila traffic. Anyway, iFlix I think is similar to American's NetFlix. Anyway, I will have the opportunity to finally watch the indie films I've missed before. They also have the American series that I'm watching. AWESOME! Thanks for sharing this. -Me-An Clemente of http://yogoandcream.com

  5. With my current subscription to Globe, I was told I have free Hooq access but I've never tried using it at all. I love watching movies but now that I have a son, my movie time became limited. And by limited I mean possibly 1 movie per month, lol! I'm blessed to have found a work-at-home job so I don't have to spend hours and hours going to work. ugh, Metro Manila traffic is so frustrating!

    1. Lucky you. Commute to and from work is actually more tiring than the work itself! Travel time is like going home to the province even if you're living in Manila as well. Hence, my need for iflix. Thanks for dropping by!

  6. I remember I stayed in a newly opened hotel and the TV is not fully set yet. Luckily, they have Iflix that saved my nights and days of stay. It's cool and really has massive choices. I guess I have to have it at home.

  8. For a movie lover as I am, this one is a must have app. Yes, lalo na nowadays that traffic is getting a lot worse because christmas season is fast approaching. Great to have something like this to keep you company while being stuck. But, is this a battery drainer? I also love how cheap is this. Parang Spotify lang :)

    1. Good question. I was really expecting it to take a lot out of my battery consumption but you know what, it doesn't. That's another great thing about it. Try it and you'll see. Enjoy! :)
